Thanks fabrik8r. Will using the 60/55 bulb still make a big difference over stock or is the 80/100 still needed? The link you gave states DOT plus headlamp. Is the hella e dot approved now?

Sorry that was the wrong refelector, I went back and corrected the link to the E Code, but to answer your question, Yes it will still be better even with lower power bulb because of the inproved pattern.

The H9 bulb has almost twice the lumens of the H11 bulb. Its hard to believe going from a 55w to a 65w bulb would almost double the light output, but it does.

You have to modify the H9 bulb slightly to make it fit the low beam socket but it makes a huge difference. Just do a web search on H9 bulb modification, its really simple to do.

Never. I've run E-codes plus the high-output bulbs in this '07 SG since '08, and had the bulbs in my old RK for nine years. I don't know how state inspectors could check for the bulb rating without removing it? The headlight isn't marked to indicate it is an E-code, so I can't see how anyone would know that either? It looks like any other fluted headlight.

I've also had both in my cars in the past, also with no legal issues.

Please report back once you've given them a test ride at night.
