I need to do alot of night riding this summer and am wondering what the best upgrade I can do is. HID, simple bulb swap, or full LED? Thanks for the help.

LED is the way to go. I've tried aftermarket bulbs and HID and none give the light output of a LED replacement. Tons of light down the road and to the sides.
Do a search here for Hella E series. iclick has some good info about them in some others threads. I put there headlight and a 80/100 bulb and it is WAY BETTER!!!! E is European and it is not D.O.T. certified. I hope to compare it to one of the HD or someone elses LED kits, but for what I spent, WOW...

Seriously I can't see worth a crap at night so I went with HD's LED headlight. It helped tremendously.
Then I put on the auxiliary/side driving lights (whatever you call them) and they really helped also.
I changed my headlamp out for the new style dual bulb halogen, and put Hella Ultra Blue (really pure white light) H9 65W bulbs in the low and high beam.
Both high and low beam bulbs burn on high beam. Lots of light and much less expensive than LED.
