Installed myself last summer on my 08' and it was already initialized. Dont book an appointment with the stealer until you know it is not initialized. I remember reading that most 08's were initialized from the factory....
Was told that cruise control module part number 70989-04 will work on my bike. Damn thing cost 400 bucks. And that's just the first piece to buy. Anyone know it the harness that connects to this module is already on the bike. It mounts under the left side cover. Just hope the bike is prewired down there.
ive got an 06 SG and ordered kit number 77196-04 a few weeks ago from the steeler. called today to see where my stuff was and they failed to tell me that it was obsolete. NICE. spoke to the service guys and they said they can pull out the ole microfish and piece it together for about $1000.00 bucks (installed). im gunna install it myself so that should save some cash. way more than i wanted to pay. they are in the process of getting the part numbers and prices for me. hope to get some stuff cheap on ebay. we will see. ill post when i get more info. good luck.
If you get the list of part numbers for the 06, please post 'em, I would like to piece one together off of ebay as well.
Suggestion: Stop by an HD store w/ the part no. for the obsolete kit that is for your bike. Ask the parts guy/gal to print out the installation instructions. The instructions will also include the parts included in the kit.
You can also ask for a print-out from the Touring models parts book for your model year and ask to have the pages containing the cruise control parts to be printed. I suggest this, for example, in case you want to buy the cruise switch for the right side, lower right side housing, etc. separately.
Cost will be significantly higher piecing together the needed parts (if paying list or close to list prices).
Let us know if you decide to bite the bullet and do the project.
This is what I've come up with so far. Take note that I have chrome housings so I'm not going to buy the right side hand control as an assembly cause they come in black and inwould have to swap everything out Going to buy just the cruise ****, cruise switch and chrome lower housing. I'll add the cruise switch and **** to the new chrome lower housing piece. At least I hope this will work. This list should be real close to everything.
CC module 70989-04 $400
Cable 56372-89 $32
Clip 70345-84 $2
Grommetx3 11497 $8
Nutx3 7499 $5
CC switch 71513-98 $64
CC **** 71825-968 $7
CC switch 77101-98 $66
Connector 72109-94BK $12
My not need the connector. It's the plug that goes on the end of the switch housing. If the stock one has empty slots to put the CC wires in then I won't need it. If the stick one doesn't have empty slots then i will have to cut all these wires and put them inthe new connector. The wires that come from the CC switch that goes in the dash are just plugged in the stock connector. The service guys told me to ask and they will tell me which holes. Now I haven't even began the hands on proccess so this is just an idea. I will also need to buy a different idle cable.
/You'll need the sockets that go at the end of the cruise control wires in the right side handlebar harness--you're tech buddies can supply the part numbers; heck, may be they'll crimp them on for you and save you the cost of purchasing a crimp tool
Also, you may need a different plate that goes in the bottom of the right side switch housing bottom to secure the cruise and audio switches--just check the p/n's used in the lower right housings on bikes that have the audio only switch and those that have both audio and cruise.
If you don't have one already, you will also want to use the tool HD supplies with the chrome switch cap kits to remove the audio switch cap and install the replacements.
Oh yeah, you'll need a new audio switch cap; the one used with cruise is narrower and the one that is used w/o cruise is too wide to fit with the cruise switch cap installed.
Suggestion: Simply edit your first post with the p/n's as you add additonal p/n's--it makes it much easier to follow the complete p/n listing. It's great to add a reply to note the p/n you've added; but, keeping all the p/n's in one post is very helpful to others.
