Congrates on the New SG. As for the IPOD, I would not mount it to the bike. The IPOD does not like the vibrations of the bike, or the bumps in the road. I have gone thru 2 IPODs that both locked up after a few hours on the bike. Use your ITUNES software for the IPOD and burn your music to CD in MP3 format, and use your CD player to listen to the music. I have a CD with 116 songs on it, that I use on my SG. I can control all of the tracks from the radio controls, safer that way.

Just curious if the Ipods you were using were the large capacity hard drive type or the smaller "flash" drive style?? I had heard that the hard drives will break down due to vibrations, but the flash memory players are completely safe.

I'd like clarification before I make a purchase of my own. I was considering buying an Mp3 player before spring riding season returns and mounting it to the bike. I can also play Mp3 burnt CD's but the CD player gets finicky in the cold weather of the spring and fall....I figured the Mp3 player would work well, when the CD's are not.

Its true the hard drive models don't like the vibration. I got around that by mounting it in the tourpack and even spliced into the lighting circuit to power the ipod so no worrying about the batteries. I also use a remote to control the ipod. I might do away with it if I can get a new bike with the better stereo.

I have the sansa c250 flash drive mp3 player, very smallit's 2GB---I just finished installing it on the handle bars---I almost made a simple project into PIA, but cooler heads prevailed.

I've got to take my bike back to the shop tomorrow---I have been promised that the problem will be corrected in an hour or less---after that I will be riding with the mp3.

I'll let you know if it holds up.

An mp3 flash player will work just fine like the Ipod Nano or any brand that is flash memory. I think the sound is even better than a CD. It is true the large capacity hard drive type of any brand will not hold up to the vibration.

I also use an iPodNanoand love the convienence. My problem is the earphones keep working their way out as I travel down the road, especially if I chew gum. I know nothing is perfect in the world, but maybe someone knows a better way or has a better system if they use iPods. I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance.

I use an iPod Nano which is the flash drive type and it works great. Make sure you get a stereo cable to hook up instead of a mono cable. I didn't realize and I plugged it in and it was coming out of one speaker! Anyway, I have a pouch at the bottom of my windshield and just plug it in and set it in there, rode many miles no problems!

Both IPODs that I used where the large capacity ones. 1 was a 20 gig, the other is a 30 gig. I remember reading that some people had the skipping problem with CD and updating the firmware on the radio fixed it, and also PEZ said something about the need for the radio needed to warm up just a bit. I have not had any issues with CD's skipping and I have rode while it was in the 20's.

I play all of my MP3 music thur the CD player now, and I do not use my IPOD on the Harley. I have a Siruis Satalite Radio that will be going on the bike come spring time. Burning MP3's to CD is the way to go for me. I like having control over the CD player rather then to fiddle around with the IPOD when I am riding.

You need different earphones. Go to Circuit City or Wal-Mart and look for the earphones that go inside your ear canal. They cost about $20. or so. You can get some that cost alot more, but these work great for me. Also check out Aerostich link and click on the electronics section for some more choices.
