I've was wondering about the cables. Not just the clutch and brake cables, but what about all the wiring for the horn and lights ( High/low beam ). Is there kits for that also.
I have an Electro Glide and would like about bars about 4 inches taller.
What is the cost of adding a set of apes ( above the cost of the bars )
The lowest I was quoted for apes, ss cables & lines and internal wiring was $900. If ya do it yourself the Cables and lines are about $300. A wiring kit is around $75 but way less if ya can solder. Ya will most likely need grips, better mounting bushings and bar mounts too.
Well id say for your ElectrA glide, roughly 250-500 for cables, wiring extension kits can be purchased or you can buy wiring and make them yourself. Burly has a nice kit that includes everything to run apes on anything. On top of the cost of the bars, which will be anywhere from 150-500, youll be looking at 200-500 for wire and cable extensions. And if you need to have a shop do the install, I think the going rate is 4-6 hours of labour time, at say anywhere from 50-100 dollars and hour. If your gonna do it yourself, somwhere from 500-800ish, and add the 300-500 for labour to have a shop do it. Its not a cheap endeavor that much is for sure, prices vary quite a bit due to different cables like the fancy stainless braided ones or just regular ol black cables. The HD mini apes are in the 200 range, but yaffe bars are in the 350 range, custom bars like the BRs or Vindiktas will run ya the higher end of the 200-500 range. Tons of options, im rather keen on the bars from LA Choppers, the Prime Apes are nice, I like the Nice Curves.
im 6ft and got 16"s with a straight up not leant back style and wasnt sure to start with and thinking of going the beach bar style but at the mo for this yr i love them
Wild One "14. Absolutely love 'em. 5' 10" 32 inseam.
FYI...Wild One recomends a 1 piece top handlebar clamp. If your bike doesn't have one already, make sure you get it. If not your bars will fail at the wiring hole in the middle, maybe not for a while, but they will fail. The previous owner of my bike saved a few bucks and reinstalled the 2 piece clamps. It was fine for years, but the added leverage of taller bars and stress from moving the bike around along with the extra movement provided by rubber mounts...bad combination. I was roasting up a twisty backroad 5 hrs from home and mine failed as I was backing in at the hotel (pulling on the bars). Like having 2 oars on a rowboat. 3 min earlier and things would have been very bad. Dont know what brand they were.
They're not that high. I'm 6'4" with a 35" inseam and they feel like they're stock for me. I like the Carlini bars and numerous other brands, but nothing looks more natural than the Wild 1 Chubbies on a Harley especially a Road King. 16" is my choice, maybe 18" down the road, but I like to still be under the shoulder.
