I'm down to one key fob and barrell key. Lost the other one. I have a buddy who recently got a third one with a used bike that's not for his. He gave me the FOB so I could get it programmed as my spare. Called my dealer and they want 1/2 hour labour and a programming fee to set it for my bike. Money's tight, so might just skip it. Anyone know how much it costs to just order a new one if you happen to loose it? I know my security code if I'm ever stuck.
For '07 and newer they list for 39.95, so I would ask the dealer why I would pay them as much or more than a new one cost, and offer them like 20 dollars to program the one you have. I'm with Cigar, my dealer may not do it for free, though I think they might, I am sure they would do it cheaper than full price for the fob.
The 04 is different than the 07's which have to be programed at the dealer. when they program it they need all the fob's there to do it at the same time. When I needed a new fob the dealer I bought it from programed it for no charge cause I bought it off them
Evan if you "buy" a FOB it still has to be programmed, the tech has to stop what hes working on, bring your bike in to the shop, pull your saddle bag and side cover, hook up the computer, input your bikes information, manually input 48 characters for each fob and wait for the computer to do its thing, then put in your pin number if you desire, put the bike back together and bring it back out front. This all takes time and time is how a tech earns his paycheck! Do you work for free at your job?
BTW we only charge 3/10s for a walk in on FOB programming!
my dealer had a used one - sold it to me for 20 bucks & program it free. Talk to another dealer.
Just a note - I wrapped my extra FOB in tinfoil so the signal can't get out - keep it in the trunk with a extra battery - then i have an extra barrel key taped out of sight - works for me
