To each their own, but I have found the older I get the more I am concerned about safety. I think back to the things I did as a kid and wonder how I made this far (56). For me now it is a full face helmet.
I recently heard about this and as I live in WI, I always avoided MI because I just don't like wearing a helmet.
Have to ask, if anyone knows; when does that law, or repealing of the law actually take effect? I know it was signed in, but sometimes that means immediately, sometimes not.
I live in a helmetless state and went without one for years. My dad had a heart attack riding his bike a few years ago. He did not have a helmet on and crashed into a truck in front of him. He spent time in a coma and then occupational rehab. He mostly recovered and rides again but his brain is wired a little different now. After watching that experience and the drain on everyone involved I decided that I should wear a real DOT helmet. I know I can't predict when something bad might happen.
But it is a choice and I am glad that you get to have one. Ride safe.
Helmet always for me in this choice state of Illinois (S is Silent)
I know alot of guys that should were them but dont... Its nice to have the option...
My wife was hit by a car on her bicycle when she was in collage...she was wearing a helmet and the Dr.s said it saved her life. Better safe than sorry i say.....o~`o.................. Happy Trails..... :-)
Choice is a good thing. Our Governor did the right thing by signing the bill. We have lost out on a lot of tourism $$$ over the years because of the helmet law.
As for me, it sure felt good to go for a ride last night without the lid

the law took effect yesterday at 9:15 am when the seal of approval was stamped on the act and it was filed
I am also glad that the governor of Michigan repealed this law unlike the prior governor who at least twice that I remember vetoed this bill after it passed both the house and senate. I was involved in a crash in 2006 when a lady pulled her mini van out in front of me and when I awoke 18 hours later in the hospital the police officer that assisted at my accident had brought what was left of my helmet to me. Without it I would have certainly suffered massive head injuries or death. Because of that I will always wear mine for my personal safety but I have always felt this should be a matter of choice not something regulated by our government.
It's your choice. Florida allows no helmet riding, if you have a certain level of insurance; however, I always ride with a helmet. I have seen too many people injured or killed when a helmet could've made the difference. I love my wife and kid too much to take that chance.
I do own a half helmet for around town. When touring I wear a modular full-face.
