I've been searching for 2 weeks and cannot find a difinative answer on wiring a mini tach (after market) on my 06 EFI Road King.
I've seen many posts with similar question but, no answer.
I haven't been able to find the pink wire they speak of and wiring diagrams don't show there being 2 separate coils which would allow the use of an adapter.
Can this tach be used and if so how.
Her is a link for the Harley Davidson mini tach installation. it should tell you the location on your Road King.
On my 2009 there is a service plug for pluging in an shop anylizer under the left side cover. One of the lead is a tach pulse. This is where I tied in my Tach. But, it is a HD Mini Tach.
Thanks for the replies guys.
The tach doesn't have a name I can see.
I,ve checked the headlight nacelle and under the speedo. Under the speedo it looks like a pink wire plug but, it's on the male and the female plugs so no help there.
The link for tach install didn't show up.
Maybe a playing card on the wheel spokes; I'll just have to count real fast.
Show us what the tach looks like....I've spliced wires in-line before and I really don't like doing that on my HD for anything regardless of the accessory. If it doesn't plug into the factory wiring nice and clean, it's not going on my bike. The tach your describing would likely require various splices, how do you feel about that.
Tach has the bsic 4 wires: grnd, power, light, and sensor.
One web site claimed my bike will need a pickup as well. I'm assuming this is going to use the plug wires as the feed source.
I can use what's called a tiny tach; it's only $47.00 and is very accurate but, it won't add to the bike's looks.
May be time to give up.
