Indexing spark plug washer sizing....
I ordered a package of Moroso indexing washers; http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moroso-Spark...2#ht_500wt_938
They are way too big for the plugs that fit my 96" motor (way too big). Has anyone used washers to index their plugs that actually fit I would appreciate your source.

with modern high voltage ignition systems and efi, I don't think you'll get any benefit from indexing.
And the possible negatives of reduced plug reach and cooling ( thread contact).
indexing plugs, is using washer-like spacers to get an end result of the open side of the plug gap facing the center of the combustion chamber.
Some benefits in older hot rods.

I simply mark each plug and install each one into each cylinder and put them each into the cylinder that they are closest to being indexed.
They should be 12mm washers. The jury is out on whether indexing is beneficial. Just for kicks I checked the NGK plugs I had in. Not even close.
Surprisingly the HD plugs I put it were pretty close. Doesn't mean I'll continue to use them tho.

I don't think the high voltage single fire ignition system really has anything to do with the spark shrouding effect of an unfavorably positioned grounding strap. The cooling effect of a plug is dictated by the length of its insulator, a few thousandths difference in reach will have no measurable negative effect on a plugs ability to transfer heat, or change compression, or anything else. I've always experienced a smoother running engine after indexing, and you can feel the difference in 6-8 cyl vehicles. There is no denying the self cleaning effect that is gained by indexing, it allows the incomming AF charge to wash out the gap with every cycle. This is one "unnecessary" practice I will continue until I see some evidence that it is not beneficial. It falls in the same category as putting a little oil on your filter gasket, or maybe a little dielectrical grease on all your connectors, or using a torque wrench on non-critical fasteners, it sure aint gonna hurt anything.

Thanks hog-doc...its the benefit of properly indexing a plug is mostly what Im after rather than performance boost...
fabrik8r I just found a previous post from a month ago with the source info I was after ....thanks

I was under the impression the electrode needed to be pointed at the intake valve

...however the pics below shows it pointed in the middle of the valves:

perhaps fabrik8r could assist with explaining which was the electrode should be pointed to have the plugs properly indexed....?
