Oh well, since the plugs are going to be in the heads for an indefinite time frame, installing them any which way just doesnt make sense. It may be a complete waste of time, but Im one of those that still coats an oil filter gasket with oil off my fingertip. Whose to say?
Just put my plugs in and they lined up pretty close to 4-5 and 7-8. Was able to tighten them to right at 12 ft lbs maybe just a little less but the stock plugs were very loose.

On flat top pistons, no squish band, I would have to agree, not much of a difference. On a 74 XLCH that I have, if not indexed, or side gapped, you can feel the difference. That has a domed piston and should really be double plugged. Of course the merits of that I have seen argued over for countless threads and such.
