Talked alot of people/wrenches you don't gain anything by indexing unless you have a very hopped up motor and race it It's just a waste of money & time!
But to each his own!
Thanks for the input everyone...going to index regardless, just makes sense pointing the plug in the right direction especially if the plug your using only has one grounding strap. I suppose if I were using a plug with four straps one or more would be pointing at the intake? But since I dont read much about those plugs being used much its best to keep it simple.....take care, Tucci

Interesting, I've talked alot of professional maintenance technicians also, and most agree there is a benefit, even in a bone stock motor. Just because something doesn't yeild a 15% increase in HP or 10 ft/lbs torque, doesn't make it a waste of time and money, but I will agree to each his own!
I'm changing out the plugs on my 2012 street glide today so I figured I will see how close I can get without using any washers.
Just so I get it right.... Mark the plugs ground strap side (not the open side) and place the mark at 4-5 o clock on the rear cylinder and 7-8 o clock on the front?

I figure it can't hurt anything.
Thanks for the help!
Yep, you got it, you can also use the high/low torque range to gain a little adjustment, and you can over tighten a little , then back it off and retighten to gain a little adjustment. As others have mentioned swapping plugs between cylinders may get you a little closer also.
I used the 12mm washers with a fresh set of NGK plugs on Sat and got them dialed in to the 4-5 & 7-8 directions outline by fabric8r. Without the washers they were facing the wrong directions....thanks for the knowledge share peeps!
