Default Vance and Hines quiet baffle install

Ok I got the stock baffles out....it does require a slide hammer.....so what's the trick to getting the quiet baffles all the way in?

Little bit of oil to smooth the path, and then a big rubber mallet to show it your serious. Of course If you have a wire brush that will go in there to clean up any carbon and such first, would make it easier.

If you have the packing on baffle wrap some type of thin wire around it to hold packing so it dont bunch up on the way in the pipe.

I have the Vance & hines pro pipe 2-1 and I changed the baffle to the quite one also and I had to tap it in with a rubber mallet just make sure you have the bolt holes lined up other wise its a problem to get the bolts in

That's the only easy way to do it. I wrapped mine a few times with safety wire, then it isn't too bad to get them in. It also helps to take a screwdriver and push the fiberglass wrap in as you tap the baffles in.

To ever get them back out, you'll need to pull the mufflers off and start beating them from the inlet side. I've gone between regular and quiet baffles a few times with my Fishtails, the volume is good with the quiet baffle but I don't like the tone as much.

I'll let you know how they sound when I get them on the bike. Right now just working on getting the quiet baffles in place. FYI, there is NO packing whatsoever, none, nada. The baffle is just slightly smaller in diameter than the stock baffle but it's basically just a perforated metal tube. Need to use a bigger mallet, these suckers are tight.

Use WD40 or a similar lubricant, should help get them in. I've also used anti-seize, too. It'll get all over the place, though.

got em in, no oil or anti-seize needed. Was matter of making sure they were straight and not getting hung up on the far end. Couple good whacks with the mallett and all set. Did have to re-tap one of the screw holes in the baffle. I could tell if I put any more pressure on it, the bolt was going to sheer off. Went to put them on the bike and next surprise, the mounting bracket under the saddle bags is the wrong size. Bolt holes don't match up. Ok, so apparently not all the V&H slip ons have the same bracket. Should have the new brackets in a day or two. In the meantime, I'm heading for Hill Country for a long weekend. The new mufflers can wait.

Well, Hill Country was great as ususal. Little rain on the way out last Friday but the next 3 days were about as good as it gets.

Finally put the twin slash ovals on the bike this afternoon. First impressions: Somewhat louder than the Monster ovals but not too bad. I like the tone better. Definitely more bark when you're on the throttle. I was getting some popping on decel with the Monsters but doesn't seem to be doing it nearly as much with the twin slash ovals. I defitely like the twin slash look better than the Monsters. I did drag the Monsters a few times this last weekend in Hill Country. Hoping that the slightly narrower and shorter twin slash ovals will cure that.

The real test will come when my better half is on the back.
