Default RK air shock settings

Okay super noob.. if that irritates you just keep moving . This is my first touring/air shock bike. I just got my pump in the mail today.

I have a 2011 RK classic that I just got new 2.5 weeks ago. I got home without an owner's manual somehow. I've called about getting one sent to me, but no joy yet.

Can someone point me to a table or type the settings vs weight or ride comfort or whatever is out there. I want to make sure its set up the best possible for riding with my wife.

I found the stem in between the right side bag and fender that i assume is where the air goes. I don't see a stem on the right side so I assume the one gets both? Also I can't get my hand down in there to get more than a fingertip on the stem cap. Can i gently open it with pliers.

Is there anything I need to know about it? thanks...

Depends on what you weigh but here is the info from the 2012 service manual.
Solo rider:
Up to 150lbs "0" psi
150-200lbs. "0-10" psi
200-250lbs. ""10-20" psi
250-300lbs. "20-30" psi

With passenger. "40-50" psi

"DO NOT EXCEED 50 PSI"
Mine is set at "20" psi and I don't change it for solo or dual. Seems ok to me.

This is right. I have mine set at 25, as I had my shocks lowered 1.25", and set it at 40 w/ wife onboard. Seems to work on crappy Michigan roads.

I have mine set around 20 lbs with just me on the bike. With me, and loaded saddle bags, 40 lbs. With me and the wife (loaded or not, the bike, not us), 50 lbs. 50 lbs is MAXIMUM! DO NOT EXCEED 50 LBS!!!

The guidelines that the manual gives are just that guidelines, play with the pressure to find what works for you just don't exceed the Mac pressure of 50 psi. On mybike when I had the stock shocks solo I ran 16 lbs and I'm 210 lbs.

To get to the valve just open the saddlebag make sure your using a low pressure pump or ideally the shock pump made for this, don't ever use a compressor

Thanks, folks, the wife was able to get her fingers in there and take the cap off for me, and I did the rest. I bought a progressive shock pump from amazon. I will probably test it some as we go along. The shocks were on 10 I found out and I'm in the 20-30 range, so I set it at 30 since I'm taking the wife for a ride tomorrow. I ran out and tested a couple of roads and parking lot entrances/exits that jar the crap out of me and it was waaaay better.

So of course that lends itself to one more question. Now that the rear end is more comfortable, I'm noticing the front shocks of course. They're not supposed to be aired up are they?

thanks for the help and the patience!

The fronts are not adjustable.

Thanks! I'm good to go then. I'm gonna take the pump with me so i can go up over 30 on the road if it feels like we need it. The roads are mostly crap around here too.

Many opinions on this topic Jimmy. Try many pressures since it's so easy to change. For me, (210 lbs. and ride solo), I never go below 30 as it gets too harsh over Canadian roads.
