Mine does it too, only when it's a cold start. It bothered me enough that I tried to "adjust it out", I even tried ATF type F in the primary (it is said that gets rid of it, but it doesn't). So now I just put her in neutral before I fire it up cold.

Cold starts are in neutral. Warm starts usually in gear. Only because I don't like slamming the tranny into first when the idle is higher on start up.

What's the sense of startin it in gear anyhow?

LET IT WARM UP.....THEN pull the clutch lever in, wait a few seconds, THEN put it in gear...
It's obvious you don't know much about bikes, as you stated you tried adjusting the clutch from "what you read on the net".....get a shop manual....IF you have tools, and IF you're mechanicallly inclined, and IF you want to learn about the machine that's between you & the ground!
Lazy people find it easier to simply pull in the clutch and push the start button as opposed to putting both feet on the ground, rocking the bike a bit to unload the trans, raising your foot back up to the shifter, finding neutral, then pushing the start button. Man...that's tough to do. wheeeuw

Yep, that's me. Lazy and quick. The last time I consistently started my Harley in neutral it was a kick start shovel. I don't sit in traffic lights in neutral either. You want to rock your bike and row through the gears looking for neutral just to start your bike, have at it. I'm outta here.

Agreed. I do notice a tiny surge cold with the clutch in, but a quick rocking typically takes care of even this minor annoyance. Pull in the clutch, and fire it up. Hold the front or rear brake if you really want to be safe... Good luck!

When I went to riding school they taught us to always hold the brake when starting the bike, ever have it in gear when you thought it was in neutral ? This prevents the emberassing lerch forward or clutch drag

Yeah, so now I know it's normal. This is my first Harley, only had it a couple of weeks. Other bikes I've had did not do this... So... Starting cold in neutral.
