I am smelling burnt rubber when I get my 2006 Street Glide over 75 MPH. I had an Avon MH90 /21 54H Venom X on the front. I went to a Avon 120/70-21 Venom X 68H on the front. Due to its heavier load bearing capacity and better handling. Could it be the new tire is rubbing?? It appears to have plenty of clearance. I have heard of guys having to move the fender up if they are using a 130/70-21 but never heard of having to move the fender with a 120/70-21. Any ideas on this??
Thanks
Are you sure its rubber you're smelling? I have the same size tire on my bike, when i installed it I drilled the fender mounting holes slightly bigger so I could tilt the fender about 1/32nd" it did'nt seem to rub, but when I taped a penny to the tire there was a small spot, adjusting the fender that small amount cured it.
This may be messy but hoses off easily and wont hurt anything, take some flour add water make a paste with it spread it on the sides of the tire and ride it, you will be able to see the marks in the flour where it is rubbing, if you think its the middle of the tire hitting the fender, its harder to do but unbolt the fender pull it up enough to you can cover the inside of the fender with the paste , ride it, pull it back off and have a look, youll be able to see if its rubbing and also determine how bad its rubbing, wheither its rubbing hard or just hitting once in a while, the flour will just hose off and wont oxidize any aluminum or discolor any chrome or paint.
your front tire is hitting the back top of the fender .due to spring compressions , or bumps ,, front tire expands on top . also it won't. matter if you got 120 or 130. . your tire is 70 series you need to adjust it . good luck

I agree, you could pull over and run your hand around the outside of your fender to see where it's heating up, we've all seen how tires on dragsters expand in diameter.
Great info guys! I will pull the fender and see where it is rubbing. Thanks for the help! This is the best place for HD info lots of knodgelable people here! Thanks again!
A buddy of mine intalled a 21" on his front. I can't recall the clearance from tire to fender but it appeared adequite. At higher speeds he too could smell rubber. By the time he stopped he could not see mark on center of tire and inner fender view was obstructed from tire. Eventually, after an extended high speed run, he noticed the paint on the top, rear, middle of the fender was bubbled. We took the wheel off and could see where it was rubbing at high speeds. I was surprized the tire would elongate that much but that was the problem. lifted the fender another 1/2" and no more rubber smell.
