I need a new tire for my Street Glide[2007]
I am tired of the Harley tires from Dunlop.
Is there an Avon and what size. Now the next question, do the dealers
have or can get them
Thanks
Shortleg[Dave]
i am getting approx 6 K out of the rear Metzlers on my bike. The rear dunlops have averaged 12K. Tried avon on rear before the metzlers, got 8K, going to look at the Michelins next, Seems the Dunlops are the best for wear, My 2 cents. I hate em too, but don't like spending 1K a year on tires even more.
E3 made in USA. Best tire I ever used. I have 13k on it and its gonna make a few more k before I think about changing it. Stick with Made here as best ya can.
I always find the best deals online. First (and last) time I bought a tire from a dealer it cost me $300. I get the EIII's much less than $140 and an Indy puts them on for $25. A word of caution. Make sure what you buy matches the type of tire you will not be replacing. IOW, bias with bias and radial with radial.
Once you decide on a tire your dealer may not do the install. The dealer by me will not install a tire they do not sell you. They claim liability issue. So you could be looking for a good indy to do the install.
I have run the dunlop E3's and really liked them. One thing I really liked with the front tire is the tread does not run with the tire. It runs on a diagonal (angle). There is an iron grate bridge we run across the Mississippi river often (2 line - kinda scary to some) and those tires don't bounce you around like a pinball machine.
From my understanding the 160/80B16 will fit without modification.
For years I've been hearing that folks "hate" Dunlop tires, but nobody ever says why. Most agree that they get the best wear out of the Dunlop over othe brands and that they're the best priced. I've heard people say that other tires are "stickier" but on a touring bike is that really that noticable? Not to me. I've riden Dunlop since the beginning and they've stood me in good stead for hundreds of thousands of miles.
The stock dunlops are junk compared to an e3. If you haven't tried the e3 than you have no idea the night and day difference. HD gets junk tires cheap that last cause they're like rocks. Grated bridge is on good example. No tracking in the grooves. And the way the bike handles is crazy different. Even the wife noticed it as we were pulling out.
