After a lot of listening at my dealer and on line, I decided the sound I like are the Monster Rounds (with the Power Duals). I am not disappointed. Quality and fit and finish is tops.
Caveat: I have a 103", not 96". I have the Monster Rounds along with other intake/exhaust/tuner mods (see sig). I have been very pleased with the sound of the MR's. Much better/deeper than stock, but not too loud. They are a LOT quieter than the VnH Long Shots I had on my WG - especially at speed - which made the SO happy too.
You get still get a decent growl outta them which you twist the wrist, but are quite deep n mellow around town. Another way I'd compare their sound is the difference between an older carbureted 351 Cleveland and a modern FI 350 Chev - less hot rod / more sports car.
I have the Monster Rounds with Power Duals. They are louder than the ovals, but not obnoxious. I also have SE255 cams which make them a bit louder. I recomend them.
I have the same setup as you, just on a 2012UL
Only had the bike since yesterday, so i haven't rode to far yet.
First impression : Exhaust sounds real nice and deep in town. At high speed, the radio was useless but that might be normal for the radio anyways.
Once at 50-60 MPH, the exhaust was very noticeable and might turn out to be a pain on long trips.
Was looking at the youtube video posted...it does seem to have the same tone, but louder as somebody said. Maybe more then just a little....
dschock: I have MRs and my friend has the Rineharts. IMHO, both are very good looking pipes on a touring bike.
My friend's Rineharts (to my ear) are a fair amt louder than mine. We both have 103" - his is a SG that also has cams and head work done, so that certainly may have something to do with it - but I don't think that's the sole reason his are louder. I like the sound of mine - he likes his. To each his own, eh?
I have the V&H Monster Rounds and PowerDuels with Stage 1 Screamng eagle air cleaner with a 103 engine and it sounds great. It sounds so good at idle and highway that im putting them on the Wifes new 2012 Streetglide.
