You've got this sorted out by now I'd guess... The adjuster all the way counter-clockwise (no grooves/rings showing above the adjuster) is minimum pre-load, i.e., as soft as they get. Turning clockwise from there will only make the shocks 'stiffer'...

I'm 210# and never ride two-up. I sent my 940's back to Progressive and had the springs replaced with 'standard' (130/90) springs. I believe these are the same springs used on the 440 'standard' shocks. The cost was only about 20 bucks as I remember. The shocks suit me a lot better with the lighter springs. I run them with minimum preload.

When you mounted them, did you use the bushings in the rubber shock mounts. When I got mine several months ago, there was a bag of bushings that were labeled for sportsters etc, not the EG. Un thinking, I started to mount the bolts and quickly realized the bushings were required. Without them the shock would have banged in the bolt.

I first adjusted to the softest setting, furtherest up and over a few days moved it down a couple of notches. Happy with that setting

Update: after a bunch of emails with a rep from progressive, I got the sag measured and sent him a picture and he said that he could tell from the picture that the shock is using its full stroke of the suspension and he asked if I want to send them in so that they can dyno test it, but they needed a reciept, when I told him that I'm not the original owner he said that they would look at it but I would be liable for any repairs. I told him that I was surprised because I've read on this furom quite a few members that claimed that no questions were asked and no reciept was necccessery. I'm gonna send them in anyway cause I can't use them as is and I'll update the result.

I have had to send a proof of purchase everytime and they stipulate that in thier warranty.
