Default Tire size question

i have a 2005 flht with uses the mu85b16 rear tire and i was wondering if a 150/80 16 will fit. i believe the width of my rear tire is 140mm and the tire that i have available to me at no charge is 150mm width. question is will this fit with no mods needed.

thanks

Everything I have shows the 150/80 16 as a front tire. You did not say what model or brand the new tire is. I am also only showing a 760 lb weight rating compared to 908 lb on the mu85. Go to the tire brand website and check for the specs. There are riders on here with 160/80 16 e3's on pre 09 FLHT bikes but I don't thimk I have room in my fender for them.

I seem to remember "hearing" a few years ago that there would be problem with the belt guard and or stock belt width. (my memory not so good tho). In 2004 (I think), they went from an MT90 (130) on the rear to a MU85 (140) without changing the frame although there were some differences in hub/spacers. so, squeezing a 150 without making other mods might be pushing it. Also, what brand tire? different manufactures 150s are not all the same - subtle differences - I think Metzlers are known to be slightly narrower than, say, a michelin of the same size.

I remember in 04 when the MU85 became stock, several guys I know tried to swap from the MT90. Some worked, some didn't - Drag Specialties was selling a spacer kit to make it work. I was interested at the time as I was riding a '99 with the MT90 (130) on the rear.
