15k service tips
Im currently running the hd syn3 oil and am thinking of switching over to a heavier mobil 1 synth (20w60? or do they make a straight 60?) as it looks like its going to be a very long hot hot summer in florida.
What about the primary and trans? I was thinking of redline but have heard the needle bearings will be shot with the thicker redline oil in trans. Any better alternative that can be had locally?
Appreciate any tips or suggestions.
When the motor was rebuilt with more precise tolerances ( better materials, better machining) I now use multi grades.
Take advantage of modern formulations, the machining in the twin cam is far more precise than earlier motors, incl. the evo.
+ if you do get a warranty, you will need to show rec'ts proving service at intervals with compliant fluids.
my 2˘:
a.) buying warranty requires you to keep a stock motor to keep the warranty in force.
A 3rd party warranty contract requires careful reading to ensure that you are compliant when you buy the thing, and stay so through the period of coverage.
b.) there are no magic fluids-and mechanical problems cannot be fixed with a bottle ( unless rum)
I get great service from the H-D fluids, and I am not a believer in mixing fluids. Clutch packs hold alot of fluid and the discs are impregnated.
The only advantage I see to redline is if you are trying to track a leak and the red dye helps determine the source.

K/N 171c chrome oil filter with 17 mm nut on bottom: easy on and off.
Can't beat the protection, ride with pride.
BTW: might not be a bad idea to let the dealer do the 15,000 service this one last time since the warranty is soon to go - they might find something to fix that's covered, FWIW.
