Thinking about purchasing a 2012 Denim Black Street Glide. I have searched the forum and found some very helpful information. Just checking to see how some of the guys with older Denim Black bikes are making out with the paint and quality of the paint (chips, scratches, fading etc ). Also what is the best way to clean the bike? I was told that the paint is durable but do not get wax on it, what happens if you get wax on it and how can you get it off? Thanks in advance.
I have a 2010 FLHX black denim. I have cleaned it since new with Hot water to remove bugs, window cleaner no amonia, and Harleys denim cleaner( once in a while). I have never waxed it but the owners manual says harley gloss can be used. I have never used the harley gloss.
I dont have any issues with fading, I had 1 scratch I fixed with the harley scratch kit.
No chips, scratches, or fading on mine. Just wash with cold water and soap. If you wax denim paint it will become glossy over time so wax is a no go, at least for me. If you get wax on it just wash it off.
A friend of mine who owns a detailing company got me this spray stuff designed for denim paints to use like I would Pledge or Maguire's. It works ok but streaks too easily. I've found that plain old washing the bike works best.
I had a denim black Night train for 4 years. No issues at all. I really miss that color. I saw a street glide in that color at the local. Looked really good.
Love my denim sporty. Easy to clean and looks great. Thinking of getting a SG in the same color next year for the Mrs. and I to get around on together.
