Default RKC - best *temporary* wiring solution for GPS?

Here's one for yall.

I have a waterproof Nuvi, and will of course mount it to my bars. I have a short car->battery tender adapter from Powerlet, and will run the car adapter power cord supplied with the unit.

But I will use the GPS only for long trips, otherwise it will all be removed.

Does anyone have suggestions for the best way to deal with the power wire? I dont want it flapping around on my tank or by my leg near the engine.

I'm a bit stumped with how to craft a good temporary solution that is easy to remove but wont be flapping all over the place when I have it on.

Ideas?

Do a Google search for nuvi motorcycle power cord. Before I got my zumo I used a nuvi and found a power cable that went to the battery right to the unit. Then had the nuvi on a Motomount. Just have to be careful as after too many times getting wet it will stop working.

Oops. Just read your post again. I ran mine under the tank console.

u have a windshield?

all i did was bend a piece of stainless on one end, hooked it around the lower part of windshield and then used the center bolt to perm hold it. i 2 part glued a +12 outlet to it and ran the wire thru the nacelle and to the battery (fused), you could prob find a +12 switch or always on source in the nacelle.

Thanks, this is probably the best solution - I'd call this "semi-permanent".

I ordered a 12 volt power cord from Amazon that has a deltran plug on one end, connects to the batt tender pigtail, and has a cig plug recepticle on the other with a weatherproof cap. I ran it under the tank over the engine and tied it off with small plastic ties and tied the plug low on the bar with the slack tied up and bunched away.
I also use a cig plug to dual USB small adapter that is almost flush when plugged in to keep anything charged that's with me. Easy on and off when needed, about $8 for cable, $5 for dual USB 2.0 adapter, will charge any USB.
It's not even noticable, except for a tiny blue dot on the USB plug that confirms power.

Keep in mind that battery tender pig tail isn't fused. So it would be a very good idea to get some type of inline fuse.

My tender cable has a 7.5 fuse in it, yours should too, have to look for it... It's there.
You can buy them with a 15A fuse too, for running small compressors, etc.
Some just replace the 7.5 with the 15, probably OK on wire gauge.

Can you post a link to the power cord you purchased?
