Default How do you justify...... your spend

Just throwing this out there..... As I go through the process of customizing me 2006 road king Custom.... I am wanting to add some stretched bags and wide fender.... and an Arnott Air bag system...
As I begin to price this out... I am struggling with when is enough enough?

I know when I sell my bie eventualy to get a new one... I know I will at some point.. I will never get nearly out of it what I have into it.

How do you guys justify investing (not sure thats what I would call it) 10k or more in your bike knowing you will never recover it..

Just curious. I will probably do it anyways... but trying to get over the (this is not a smart thing to do) feeling.

Rule no 1. Bikes are never an investment.
Rule no 2. You'll never get out of your bike what it is worth to YOU.

I've come to the realization, that my bikes will always be my bikes. If I want a new one, I'll have to save some cash for a down payment, or pay it in full. My current bikes won't be used to negotiate for a future bike purchase.

That said, I'm not sure how to tell when enough is enough, and I think it's different for each person. I've spent some considerable money recently, and I don't regret it....then again, I've never been one to leave well enough alone.

Good luck, I doubt I was much help!

I'm terrible at investing. I seldom make any money buying and selling anything (including 3 houses)? Buy what ya want and enjoy! It's only money.

Does the spending divert funds needed for taking care of your families needs or comprise your financial health? No.

Does it make you happy? Yes.

There you go.

You DON'T...

Plan on keeping it as long as you like it and realize that you will NEVER get your "chrome" money back.

But remember, you had FUN while it lasted.

I sold a chromed out Ultra for 1/2 of what I had in it. It went to a good home.

Chroming and customizing is an addiction, enjoy it while it makes you happy.

To me it's a stop gap measure to keep me from buying a new bike. If I ever do buy a new one, I'll make sure that the vast majority of the parts from the old bike will fit the new one and transfer the parts accordingly. I traded up last time from my '07 Night Train to my '09 Rg and very few parts came along. (lesson learned)

And here is the Key.

When I sold the Ultra I had NO intentions of getting another bike for quite awhile... So, I left every "skull/chrome" thing on it.

Well that was a mistake. Although I will never go as far with the V Rod, yeah right, I will remove chrome if and when I sell it.

I find myself replacing certain things I could have kept from the Ultra.

Lesson learned.

There is no justifying it. It just makes you feel better. It makes you happier. It’s an enjoyment.

You'll find that the more you spend, the easier it will get to spend more!
