I am running Fastaire 7" dark smoked and it works great for me. Really knocks the wind and turbulence away and looks good too. I need to update my sig photo to show the Fastaire. I did have a LRS 8" dark smoked which also worked great but was too tall for me. 5'6"

The 12" F-150 stock shield was the first thing to go. I was running a LRS Recurve 9" all throught the fall/winter and it is great. Since they keep running these specials I ordered a 6" for my Spring/Summer shield. Put it on the other day and it is great. I am 6', I see over the 9" just fine and everything is deflected right over my head. I was worried the 6" would be too low and not do anything, but again everything is deflected over my head and I see virtually no shield in front of me. This is the first time in years (since I decided I was too big of a puss to ride without a shield) that it has not been in my line of vision. This shield is awesome!!!

I just ordered the 10" Phantom for my RG from LRS last weekend. I dont have it yet but will report back after I get it.

I would have ordered 2 (one for my husbands RGU) but the tallest in the Phantom was a 10" and his stock size is 16" and he just looks over the top and wanted something in maybe a 14"

Height of the shield is not so important as "design" of the shield, since that will affect the stream of air going over your head or into it, depending on the shield. Hope that helps a little. Good post here. Longrideshields-1 is a sponsor of HDF who definitely is in touch with concerns of HDF members. I've seen him post on other threads as well, and he always has something good to contribute. When I decide the time is right to upgrade the windshield on my '12 RGU, Long Ride Shields will be at the top of my list!

When I had my '04 EG Ultra, and currently on my '08 FLHTP, I always preferred looking through the windshield for the protection it offered, especially against bugs and stones/foreign objects. I can't tell you how many times the windshield has deflected things, especially on the police bike (I put 10 K/year urban riding on that one!). The guys I ride with on the motor unit and on civilian Ultras as well all seem to prefer looking through rather than over the windshield.

You must decide wether to look thru or over your next shield. My preference is to look over. And if you do look over your windshield, my advice with the recurves is to not go too short or you will be blasted with wind. Somewhere between lips and nose is what works best for me.

Hmmm... This doesn't make sense, Pete114. In actual practice, you WANT the top of the shield to line up with your mustache (that is, the area between you nose and upper lip).

A convenient way to measure this height is to sit in a riding position on the bike, extend one arm forward, palms down, so that your arm is parallel with the ground, and have someone mark the area where your fingertips hit the windshield.

When measuring for a windshield, always measure from the top of the faring, at the center screw.

I'm 6'1" and I use an 8" Fast Aire "Aero" windshield. I like Jim's recurve design and polycarbonate construction. Plus, his pricing is very competitive and his customer service is outstanding. I guess you can figure that I'm a happy customer!

Pete, you are in a good place, just five years ago there were fewer choices and most of them were expensive, expecially in the recurves. The risk and cost today aren't bad now. In fact you can have a several sheilds that can be more specific for the ride of the day.
