Not sure I agree 100% with this. I had a Roadstar that I did not have a shield on for quite some time. I decided to try one and never took it off. I always looked through it and I hated it. I had a RKC that I always left the shield on and could look over if I sat up straight, any slouch and it was it that bad spot for my eyes. So I would slouch more and just look through. I hated it.

Once I changed out to the LRS 9" on my Ultra I could see over it at it lined up about where they say it should as stated in the quote above. I still see it but never look through, VERY NICE. All wind, bugs etc.. is deflected over my head. Recently I put on the LRS 6" and when I took it out of the box I thought OK this is not goping to work... I put it on anyway and it works just fine. I have not experienced any wind, Bug issues at all. It still deflects everything right over my head with the added bonus the shield is not in my line of sight. My assumption is that the fairing is blocking a lot of the wind and the curve of that and the curve of the shield are direction up and over my head. I am 6' tall and really had my doubts about the 6" shield but it really is working out.

Just my observation. But again I have never experienced any buffeting issues like I have read in other posts either. My head has never wiggled back and forth so I could not see clear as I have read others say. Just my $.02...

Too funny. I had a Road Star, too. I NEVER rode without the windshield. You only have to do that once, in the Fall, on your last ride of the season, and you'll be cured of riding without a windshield!

I'm 6'1" and I have the 8" Fast Aire "Aero" shield on my SG and I'm fine with it. I like my view over the shield - and I like the way it looks on the bike. Someday, I may try the 9" "Aero", for better coverage, but I would never go any taller.

IMHO, the taller shields detract from the sleek look of the SG's.

I'm 6'2". I had a 10" HD windshield on my last bike and was happy with the height. Put a 9" Long Ride Shield on my new bike. Very happy with the look and quality.

After more looking/ reading/ sending emails and talking with the three manufacturers i was considering, the choice was made. I ordered a 10 inch light gray from fastaire this morning. Reason is the Polycarbonate material it's made of.
http://www.fastaire.com/Aero.html
The 40%off at longrideshields is very tempting and i will order a shorter one from them later in the year, just to see if a 6 or 8 inch would work for me.
Thanks Jim, for the 10%
hdforum member off list price, and thanks to all of you for the help.

I would suggest not having a tint, it is of no help at night in crap weather if you are tucked into the fairing for weather protection.

a tinted windscreen appears larger

+1 on the LRS. I am 5'10" and replaced stocker with a 7" dark ultra and it is much better. It is no where near my line of sight and does a good job reducing buffeting and wind noise. Great company to deal with as well. I just ordered some Hawg Wings as well because of the discount.

Hey, Mike, "at night, in crap weather" it's not gonna matter what color your shield is tinted!

I never plan to ride at night, but when I do, I wear polarized sunglasses, which provide an extraordinarily good perspective on the road ahead and the woods on either side.

When I had my '04 EG Ultra, and currently on my '08 FLHTP, I always preferred looking through the windshield for the protection it offered, especially against bugs and stones/foreign objects. I can't tell you how many times the windshield has deflected things, especially on the police bike (I put 10 K/year urban riding on that one!). The guys I ride with on the motor unit and on civilian Ultras as well all seem to prefer looking through rather than over the windshield.

Thank you for the good feedback! We like to help people out wherever we can! : ) Good to know on the windshield. People definitely have different likes when it comes to windshields. First time you take a bug to the face definitely changes your view on them. Lol We'd be happy to get you a new windshield when the time is right. Just let us know!

I have a LRS 9" recurve and love it. It has noticeably diminished the buffeting I was experiencing. I am 5' 10" and I look over the top of it. I also thought about getting the Stealth one since they have the 40% off for forum members but don't know if it will work with the 3 pouch bag I have.
