Wow thanks for the info. I've seen that gas can and found it interesting, but the $30 price tag kept me away. Now i'm glad I didn't opt for it. I also worried about what a mess and hazard it could be if it LEAKED in my saddle bag.

It does not and will not leak (if closed properly) in your saddlebag. The cap really seals the gas and the walls of the tank are really thick. I bet you can stand on it and it will not collapse.

The problem that happens with the spout is the "Safety Spout" requires you to turn the base and press the spout to open a valve in the spout to let fuel flow. The valve can separate from the rod that comes from the base that open the valve. This happens if you try to force the spout open by forcing it down before the base collar is completely turned to allow easy compression of the spout.

I know. I did this and had the valve separate. From some of the other comments here, I am going to check Walmart to see if they have a spout that doesn't have that valve in it. The tank is great. it fits in the saddlebag really well. Just the spout sucks.

Between the newer 6 gallon tanks and GPS, I likely won't need the Reda, but it does provide peace of mind when riding in unfamiliar areas.

I have two of the Reda cans. Frankly, I haven't had occasion to use them yet so can't speak to the spout issue. Mr. Reda responded to the two e-mails I sent very quickly, i.e., by the next day.

I haven't used one of these yet, but after reading this, there must be a better way.
My friend bought a new gas can (regular type), and it has the safety spout, what POS!
Newer cans don't have a relief valve . . . you know, that little cap you open so the gas will flow freely out of the spout.

Those spouts are an abomination. While they won't leak when simply holding fuel, no matter how careful I am with them, they leak like sieves when I am pouring fuel into my lawn equipment (I don't have the Reda can...just cans with the same spout design).

I have 3 of them from various manufacturers and they all leak during use. Have just replaced them with a different design spout....this type: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&rlz=1I7ADFA_en&q=safety+gas+can+spouts&bav=on.2 ,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1086&bih=575&wrapid =tlif133735164468310&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=4035971094613975535&sa=X&ei=P2O2T_C 4CISy8ATnu-GnCg&ved=0CMcBEPMCMAI# Unfortuately, this is not conducive to storing in your hard bag.

What I have done is get a piece of hose from lowes and put it over the nozzle so the can isn't over the bike and you have better control.Hose fits in saddle bag.No mess.

I see you are from NY. Not knowing if you've ever been out west, but I can assure you there's MANY areas where you can easily go hundreds of miles and never see a place to buy gas, especially at night or on weekends.

I've considered the Reda too (sure seemed like a good idea behind the product), but have always had an extreme hatred of the smell of gas in places it shouldn't be. Like inside a saddlebag, where a jacket, rainsuit, or extra shirt would be stored.

After all I've read here, I'd say that if someone spent that much for a small gas can, a few extra bucks at Walmart for a spare spout isn't a bad idea. Shame on Reda for bragging about customer service and then not living up to it. Shame on them, and bad karma.
