Default Just bought some PYO 14" bars

I finally pulled the trigger on a set of Yaffe 14" Monkey bars, got the black powder coated bars and a set of vintage grips coming too, but need to get some longer cables on the way, I'd like to have everything to put them on when the bars arrive.

Anyone else with this size bars, what size extended brake and clutch cables did you go with? And wiring extensions?

Also I've read about extending the tbw wire and also about a screamin eagle tbw wire, can anyone enlighten me to this too?

Thanks guys

my buddy had 16" installed. they ran all new wire for the TBW. they said its better than using the extensions. Be sure to use some poly bushings for the taller bars. Enjoy those bars are awesome.

Default With 12 inch monkey bars

I installed 12inch monkey bars on my ride a couple years ago. All I can tell you is my TBW cable was long enough to not need extended, bought the extension but didnt use it. I did have to extend the other wires though. I just cut each wire far enough from the connector to work with it, soldered new wire to each, dont use butt splices, you want to keep the wires at the same diameter or they wont all fit in the bars. Use some fishing line with a sinker on the end to snake through the bars. Then I use that to fish though two long wires to use so I can pull through the control wires. I would use 1 fish cable and pull through 1 control wire with + the other fish cable. Then I would pull back the 1st fish cable with the 2nd and repeat for each control wire. It doesnt get really difficult until the last two cables, then its gets tight. I did lube up the cables and lube on the inside the bars as well, so the slide through easier. On the TBW side, I pull the TBW first since these are small ga wires, didnt want them to break pulling through last.

As for the clutch and brake cables, I was able to use the original cables, just the clutch cable is not routed through the fairing anymore. I did buy extended cables but havent installed them yet, chrome braided. I will do it sometime I guess. The dude at direct harley parts advised me on the cable lengths when I bought the bars from them. Probably reading some chart from a book.

I got a spool of 18 gauge wire for the extensions. +6 on both the clutch and brake cable. Your going to need a new splitter that fits under the front triple tree & a good set of poly bushings. Make sure the clutch has the stock 3 1/2" pull (very important!)

I just got a set of PYO 14" monkey bars. I have a 07 RK Classic so no TBW but have to extend the wires to get them to reach. What is the best way? Do I just solder the wires to the extension wires then cover with heat shrink? Has anyone ran into problems doing it this way?

Well I think the extensions that I bought had the female version of the male connectors that are on the factory ends... I bought extensions a few inches longer than needed and cut the factory male ends off the wires and then cut the female ends off the extensions and adjusted the length of where I wanted them to end up just by trimming more wire off, then soldered the cut factory wires to the cut end of the extension wires then used the male ends of the extension wires to plug into the factory Harley connector
