Default Seat advice

Hey everyone,

This is my first post here on this great forum. I have been reading posts for a while, but I just finally got signed up today.

I have a 2007 Street Glide (picture to come soon but I think my new camera actually takes pictures that are too high quality for a lot of websites, pain in the ***) and I am trying to find the right seat. I am 5'5" with a 30" inseam. We mostly ride 200-400 mile trips. I actually don't mind the stock seat but after about 250-300 miles it starts to get uncomfortable. My girlfriend can make it about 200-250 before she has had it. I bought a used Reduced Reach seat this weekend and hated it. I sat on my ***** for 300 miles and my butt was sore after less than 100 miles. I did not like how it moved me forward and I felt like I had sat in a bucket and got stuck. Of course she loved it and was ready for more after 300. I am thinking of trying the Sundowner next but I am afraid I will feel too locked in like I did with the reach seat. Money doesn't grow on trees at my house but I found one on Ebay that I think will go for $200-250. Will I hate it as much as the reach seat? Will she love it as much as the reach seat? Thanks for the help!

I run the Sundowner and like it a lot. Wife does too because it is very cushiony in the rear for her. It sits you in a "bucket" so I think you will like with your stature as well.

Does it move you closer to the tank or just lower?

I find that with the wife on, I sit closer to the tank. Solo, I can sit further back. It does lower you.

The best seat I've ridden on 1998 - 2007 bike is a Harley pillow top seat. They are still in the P&A book, page 345 F. The second is a stock Road King 2 piece seat. I had a sundowner but it was on a 2010 bike and it was not very comfortable for me.I sold it to a buddy who sold it on craigslist. I wish they had a seat exchange program cause everybody
seat finds something else comfortable. Got to bike night and ask around you will get lots of opinions.

A seat exchange program is a good idea. I'd go for that one. It's so hard to buy a seat without being able to test it first most of the time.

You're more than halfway there! Stop before getting another seat. There are specialists out there who can alter your part of the seat and leave your most important 'other' comfy and happy. Look at recent seat threads for tips on modifying yours.

I have a sundowner on my 08 SG. It's nice & wide, but I recently started doing longer rides and it's just not cutting it for me. So, now I'm leaning towards more of an air-adjustable seat or the hammock style. Both are really expensive, though and I'm not quite at the point where I can justify it. A couple of more long rides should do it.

FYI, I'm 6'2 w/34 inseam and the Sundowner definitely moved me forward. Not a lot, but definitely some. It does seem to sit you down lower, so it would probably be good for you. Until recently I had a sheepskin on it, which made it a lot more comfy, but I got tired of the look.

I was testing different seats on a new SG at a dealer recently. The Sundowner seemed comfortable but it definitely sits you a bit higher than stock.

I bought my EGC from a very big guy and it had the pillow top seat on it. Let's say it was well broken in. I just replaced it with a sundowner and I love it! Plus it made the bike look younger. I think it actually moved me up a little though. Maybe because the old seat was so worn out.
