glad to read post like this so im not hte only one who just happen to buy a bike while stopping at dealer... had to drop a part off at service for my dad and ended up trading my 15th annivery fat bot with over $10,000 extra in it for the currunt street glide lol
I DID LOOKED HERE ON THE FORUM, SOME OLD THEADS, WE ARE A BIG CLUB, DON'T FELL BAD YOU AREN'T ALONE!! ...LOL
When I was still young and less handsome than I am now the missus decided it was time to start a family. I wanted another bike (had a 1200 Sporty) we agreed that if it came to it we had a deal. Later she announced I was going to be a dad. I was over the moon and at the dealership that same afternoon to buy a Dyna convertible.
Some years later I went to the dealer to get a new battery and came home with a brand new Ultra on order.
**** happens!
at least you buy a battery!! ...the one inside the new bike!! ..lol
This past August I stopped off at a dealership just to compare the feel of the Road King to the new Switchback. I wanted to see what the handle bars on the RK felt like as that was the only thing I was sure I wouldn't like. I was right. But of course, the sales manager had a solution to the problem. And since the left-over 2011 RK was about the same price as the 2012 Switchback, well.... I left the dealership minus one old pick-up truck, but with the new Road King.
Wife told me, "next time you're curious about something, just check it out online!!".
Yes, test rides are dangerous! I tested a '12 Road Glide Ultra Friday and rode it for about 30 miles and loved it! Told the wife about it and she said I need to take her on a test ride this weekend so she can check the back seat out!

Here is my story. Saw a dealer in Delaware was having a weekend event and got a few friends to ride down for the day just for something to do & the Wife saw that a certain vendor was gonna be there and wanted to go look at a specific bag for her Sporty. So we made the plans, met for breakfast and rode the 60+ miles down there. It was a beautiful Sunday after the rain cleared.
We get there and walk around. Wife says to our friends, OK we need to help Jim pick out his new bike. I had been looking and planning on a new bike a couple years from now. I had zero intention of buying a bike that day.
Well, sat down on a Road King, then an Ultra, then a Street Glide. A couple hours later, we had closed the dealership and my '98 SPortster was left behind and I was riding home my new SG!
Couldnt believe it.
Oh, and the wife didnt get her bag because they didnt have the one she liked.
Never go to a dealer to 'just look' at the new bikes or trucks. Chances are you'll go home with a new one in the garage and a big *** smile. The wife's frown and cold shoulder should go away in about a month - tops.
Show her some threads about positive experiences with ABS. And tell her like you said initially that you are getting concerned about your safety and the safety of the family.
