geargrinder......I believe your friend needs to find another dearler if they aren't even offering him $8,000 onhis '05 Ultra as a trade. My buddy just traded his '03 RK Standard on a '07 SG and he got $10,500 and he had 22K on the RK at time of trade.I plan on being like you however and holding on to my new RK Classic and just setting it up the way I want it to be, but to each his own and if you friend really wants an '07 I hope he finds the deal he is looking for. Maybe you misunderstood your buddy and maybe he said he wants an $8,000 difference which would be a very different thing than you said that would be like him getting in the neighborhood of $15K or so for his bike.
Yeh that dealer must sense some eagerness to your buddy wanting to trade up. My dealer would have given me around 10,000 for my 2000 Deuce. The ultra is much more of a bike.

$8000 DIFFERNCE, note that I edited my original post accordingly. The dealer will not do it for that, again I state, that is one hell of a lot of depreciation.
He should be able to get a better trade than that. I got my dealer to give me 10,000 for a 2003 FXD, it did have a lot of extras but it did have about 23,000 miles too. That was in march of 2006.
He must be a "Latest and Greatest Guy" don't you just hate them - !!! Hey his money to spend anyway he wants - Although, I pray on the latest and greatest because this is where you will get your best deal on a used MC -
They give them away - just so they can get the newer model (DumAsses) But if it wasn't for them you and I wouldn't get these give away prices...
I gennerally trade or sell every three years. Modern techno is a kool thang !!!! Like my 97 new motor and tranny, and in 06 new radio and I really like the radio and so do the guys I ride with that don't have 1.
Cars and trucks I keep 2 to 3 years. My last bike I had for 7 years I hate to get rid of abike as it takes so long to set up and feel like mine. I try to change something substantial each year onmy bikes to makethen seem new agian. Then I lose my butt when I sell them.
