Ask to speak to the tech, seems you should have been told what they did. I would guess maybe a EPA up grade. Have not heard of any issues with the motors.
My 2010 Ultra's HK radio needed the flash update. Downloaded it and flashed it in the garage. Other than that, there is no other updates that would apply to my knowledge.
Your '12 should have the latest update, but you can check and if not HERE are the instructions and DL. Just remember to burn the CD at 8x or below and also Nero works as one of the best burners for the update. I really don't use Nero much, but for this job it may be the best.

The link for the HD AAS software update. It has links to the AAS software download and instructions. The instructions detail the steps to download, copy, and upload the update to your bike. Use a CD, not a DVD. The disc reader will not read a DVD.
