Hacking is NOT cracking!
- Hacker (computer security) or cracker, who accesses a computer system by circumventing its security system
- Hacker (hobbyist), who makes innovative customizations or combinations of retail electronic and computer equipment
There is a huge community of technology geeks on the internet who refer to themselves as hackers who have nothing at all to do with cracking. The term "hacking" originally meant to hack away at a problem until you figured it out. It was guys like you who misused the word and spread that misuse to refer to "cracking".
In fact there are "Hacker Spaces" popping up all over this country, and the rest of the world. What is a hacker space? Its a work shop with CNC machines, laser cutters, and all sorts of other cool tools, for building and making things. People pay a monthly fee to have access to these workshops and their tools. Tools man, tools. Like how a "hacksaw" is a tool, and how you hack with a hatchet.
Times change, and language changes with the times. Hacking my Harley is the same exact thing as chopping. And we all like choppers, don't we? But the new generation doesn't call it chopping anymore. We call it hacking.
I might be wrong here, but you are likely part of the 1% crowd in knowing so much about computers. When you come in here and throw around the term "hacking", people get a little nervous and think "oh great, here come the computer viruses, or identity theft issues, or so on." I understand what your saying that times change, terms change and so on; but you have to understand that since you are the minority, you cannot expect everyone to adapt for you, at least not immediately.
If someone deleted your post, well that kind of sucks. I saw it, do not understand why you are doing what your doing (yes I read it) except that maybe your trying to find a better way. But there was definetely nothing to be scared of as far as computer hacking goes.

Wow I never thought the term hacker would cause such a problem. Yup the word hacker really does have two or more meanings. I for one was interested in your thread but I'm a geek.
The moderator is/was a history teacher. Guess it kinda makes sense. He he. I may have expected it from the Goldwing forum (no offense Honda lovers), but what happened to the Harley outlaw mentality?
has being an outlaw been outlawed? Crazy how the word "hacker" has become such an evil term these days. gotta love the computer age...

Well maybe if we put this in laymen terms it will keep another thread from being deleted.
All he is doing is decoding the signalling bus so that you can do things with it. It's just a bit of reverse engineering at the electrical level just like all the aftermarket parts guys do at the mechanical level to produce aftermarket products. He is just doing it at the electrical level and sharing the information.

I hacked down the bushes in my front yard last weekend. There! Now this thread will certainly be deleted!

This forum is about as far away from the outlaw mentality as is possible. And get a life. No one really cares that you call a hacker a cracker or vice versa, or a chopper or whatever.
