I will be calling howard in morning unless he beats me and calls first, but I thought I would ask you folks and see if maybe you could tell me what the heck to do.
I switched springs on my #6 (93mm Stroke ) to 00180-97/27 and am trying to adjust the preload.
I have the following measurements
Unloaded 355mm
loaded w/o rider 325mm
loaded w/ rider 306mm
free sag = 30mm
loaded w/o rider- loaded w/rider = 49mm
I believe I am supposed to shoot for a 324mm eye bolt flat to eye-bolt flat measurement for (R3) loaded w/ rider,
I have searched about every sag or pre load thread in the touring section lol. I called howard but he must be riding. Is there a way for a guy to set the sag without another person to measure?

I have seen them. They are called sag meters. I don't know if they are still commercially available or if they were just a fad. I think the mountain bikers use them alot. If you can get a soft piece of something on the shock shaft you can use that but I wouldn't use a zip tie as the shock shaft can be nicked when you go to remove the zip tie from the shaft. Maybe some baby powder sprinkled lightly on the shaft or a little cardboard disc cut with a slot and a hole to fit the shaft.?????

Not easily. When my wife and I set it with both of us on the bike we were in stitches of laughter at our antics. We got there in the end.
However rear through those threads again and look for references to using a zip tie round the damper rod. That may be your saviour.
The zip tie will move to the compressed position when you sit on the bike, and stay there when you get off.
