I don't mean to hijack the thread....... but sounds like a lot of knowledgeable responses.

I'm looking for a trailer capable of hauling 2 ultras without having to work a puzzle to get them to fit.
Any suggestions on size? 7X12? 7X14? Anyone have experience?

Thanks

Coming from Northern Ontario, trailering in the winter is a must. One very good friend and his brother set out for Georgia a couple of winters ago with the bikes in an open trailer. They spent a couple of hours and a couple of rolls of plastic wrap. Not sure what to call it,streches and seals, Saran Wrap is one brand you use in the kitchen. The same stuff but much bigger rolls like they use at retail outlets like lumber yards.
I talked to him about it after. Apparently it worked fine but was very time consuming wraping it on and cutting it off. Cheap though.
Good luck.

Not hijacking anything. This is where you get info for free:
I have a Classic Trailer (single). I recommend a "V" nose for its aerodynamics and you get another 2' of room because of the "V". An 8' trailer gets you 10'.

If you have room get the enclosed trailer. I went with the Kendon trailer I bought it used on e-bay. I dont have the room for the enclosed trailer. Also with a open trailer you can see what is going on. I will buy the stone guard for this trailer. As many posts have said. You cant have enough tie downs. As far as wrapping the bike in shrink plastic for a long trip. I just might try that. I will load the bike on the trailer when the weather breaks fo 2 or 3 shake down cruises before hitting the open road on a long trip. Bob.

Get a 40' 5th wheel with a 10' or 14'garage, (triple slide) mines 10' g,fits 2 baggers comfortably and a low rider if your in a pinch.

or

a 6' x 10' will be an easy fit for 2 ultra's

The best frontal area for tie-down is the triple tree, not the forks. More secure. Also, no chrome or tailpipes or footpegs, as they are mostly connected using bolts. It's hard to tell if there are stressed areas of the bolts, including hairline fractures which are invisible to the naked eye.

There should be frame areas available to attach to. Keep em upright !

yea....buy an 8x12....two wheel chocks....12 or so recessed d-rings....i've built trailers for many drag racers and motorcycles under the name Cowtown Custom Trailers....Beercuda on this site has one, Shooter has one, my personal one was built mainly out of scrap....lots of good responses here, follow soos and canedog....but to haul two ultra's comfortably, an 8x12 will do the trick....you can spot an 8 wide easily cause the fender lips on the outside of the trailer are only 2" wide instead of the 9" fender you can sit on....legal width for any trailer is 102"...most tandems and trips have a 1 1/2" wall...102-3"(for both walls) gives 99" inside wall to wall however i built my trailers on a 100" outside wall to outside which allowed me to floor it with full 4x8 sheets with little sidewall gap...to the fella who suggested a 6x10, go ahead bud, with YOUR bikes

Bite the bullet and get an enclosed trailer. I have several bikes. After about three disasters I bought an enclosed trailer. Then I also bought baxley chocks. If you do have to use an open trailer, do not, I repeat, do not, try to cover your bike. The only thing that helped was putting a 4' high panel accross the frony of my open trailer. That way you only get casual dirt and grime. The panel stops the serious **** like rocks and gobs of whatever. even the cheapest enclosed trailer you can find is far better then the best open trailer made. Open trailers are for lawn mowers not $20,000 Harley's.

Just my 2 cents, but trailering the bike & covering it is useless unless it's an enclosed trailer. Think about it. If you were riding, it wouldn't be protected. Why worry if it's on a trailer. Same speed. Same elements. Only difference is the engine ain't running and you ain't on it.
