Battery/Charging problem,need advice.
My buddy is computer illiterate so I am asking about a problem with his 2000 Road King. I will end up doing the work so I need some advice. He has been riding this about once a week for a month now and yesterday he went to start it after meeting for breakfast and there was no juice. He lives nearby so he called his wife to bring the truck and some jumper cables. He thought he may have left his switch on while we were eating breakfast. Anyways we jumped the battery and it started right up. While sitting there idling and putting the seat back on we noticed the tach wasnt working and the lights were not very bright. We thought we could ride it a bit to charge it up but didnt make it 50 yards out of the parking lot and it died after spitting and sputtering. Had to trailer it back to his house eventually. The battery is less than 2 years old but it sat all winter without a tender in a cold garage. Is the battery the culprit here or do we have some more serious issues? If so,where do we start?

theres a few things you can do first charge the battery then use a multimeter to check charging system on the bike if your reading over 14 on the meter its probably the battery but if not either stator of regulater could be bad or both

That is a serious endurance test for a battery! Put it on charge for a couple of days. A battery minder will be fine as it should recover the battery, if it is recoverable. Disconnect it while charging, just in case there is any problem on the bike. Then check charging and battery condition, as suggested by IBH. There are a few great threads on testing here on HDF, so do a search.
