I'm going to be upgrading my sg to the rockford punch amp and focal speakers. Hopefully this weekend. I've already installed a set of j & m speakers but no amp. So I can do that at least. Now I'm going all out for real loud volume. The video from rockford just plain sucks. It shows a split second soldered connection and that's about it. Anybody willing to give a step by step on how to do this install correctly? The amp install thread has lots of his and misses from guys that put one on their bikes. Much appreciated to all that can assist.
I'm actually concerned about the connections. Hk to amp, amp to speakers. Also did everybody use their stock speaker covers or cut the ones for the speakers to fit?
It's really not that hard. You've already installed speakers which I think is the hardest part.
Find the place where you want to mount your amp. (I mounted my PBR300x2 on top of the stereo with velcro and long zip ties to hold in place.)
Use 10 gauge stranded wire for power and ground. RF tech suggests to run both ground and power to battery. Make sure to install a 30 amp waterproof fuse (Radio Shack) with in 18" of battery. I took off my gas tank (not hard) to make running my wires easier.
Start with one channel at a time. Remember when looking for "left" or "right" to do it by looking at the face of the radio. I used tape and marked the wires with "L" or "R" so I would screw up.
Remember speakers go on the output side and radio goes on the input side. <<<DO NOT MESS THIS UP>>> It will fry your amp.
As for soldering... Very easy. (make sure to put a piece of heat shrink on before soldering!!!!) Get a soldering iron. Plug in to get hot. Use soldering flux... (makes soldering a lot easier.. helps solder flow in between the wires for a better bond). I cut about 1/4" off each wire and fan out the individual strands. I interlock them and squeeze them together.. Clean solder tip, apply flux to joint, put a small bubble of solder on tip and press tip of soldering iron against the bottom of the joint. Keep touching the top of the joint with the solder until it begins to melt into the joint. Keep applying until all of the joint is covered with solder. Slide heat shrink over joint and use a heat gun... or hair dryer, to heat shrink. Do this for each wiring joint... Done.
Good luck and send me a PM if you have any further questions.

Just cut off the RCA connectors and connect the wires directly like I posted above. I used my stock covers.. Just peel off slowly.. I peeled off the double stick tape off of the old speakers and use it, but you can by some.. It only holds it in place until you screw it down. Don't forget to buy speaker adapters if you are using 6.5" speakers.
Got my amp and speakers installed yesterday. Finally. It was easier than I thought. Thankfully my brother helped. Thanks for the step by step. Much appreciated.
