Default 1995 Ulta Classic

Yes Sir or Mam, I need some help. My bike started acting up about a week or so ago.

After about 15 to 20 miles when the bike gets warmed up. wile riding along I can slow down, and when I go to give it the gas it don't want to respond, its as if the motor is out of gas, like a bad excelerator pump on the carborator on a car. But this is a Fuel injected model, the first year Harley davidson came out with the fuel injection. But if I give it the gas slowly it will take on off like it is suppose to.

Then a little bit later on, and not all the time I will let off the throttle and it will be revving up like around 2000 RPM on its own. I can romp down on it but it will not slow down.

But eventuallhy it will slow down on its own.

But like I say it don't do this all of the time just every now and then.

I took it to the Harley davidson Shop, They charged me $150.00 bucks installed two intake manifold gaskets and said it was fixed.

Tried it out yesterday, and all over again. Problem still there.

If any one out there is got a solution, I would really like to hear it.

Thanks,

Jerel Hutchinson

Is this a carb bike or EFI? If it is carb there are a couple of things. One is the vacuum pipe between VOES and carb. The other is the ignition sender inside the timing cone. I have had both give problems with similar symptoms. The second is difficult to diagnose and mine finally left me on the side of the road, but the first is visually easy to check and put right.

Letting off the throttle and having rpms go up temporarily is a sign of a lean condition. Maybe a new fuel filter, bad fuel lines, or clogged injectors. Would be where I would start anyways.

It's most likely a 1996, the first year for Fuel injection, I believe. I wonder if it's possible to check for fault codes that year?

Runaway rpms sounds like the head temp sensor.

Do you have a red light on the dash that comes on and off? It should say "ENG".

Harley had an Ultra in their lineup in '95 with EFI. As I recall it was a dark red with gold graphics on the tank. Regardless, it is the same pre-Delphi system used from '95-'01. A dealer should be able to help the OP, but since it's been 11 years since the MM EFI was produced many of the young techs have no experience with it.
