It depends on the color you need... For the common colors, a factory painted one is the way to go, IMHO, especially if you are having the dealer install it. For the not so common colors, I'd be tempted to find someone local to paint it during the winter.

I'm going to my dealer this week and demand they contact someone at HD to see if they will EVER being doing a run of root beer inner fairings.
Vivid and black install yourself? Have a painter do it. Should be half the cost. Ask around at your dealer who they use for paint. Most shops that paint Harley's already have the vivid black color
