Default Need advice on 88" build...

Hey all, my bro is wanting to hot rod his 04' Ultra. I've had four bikes done up but they were all 96" to start. I know from reading he should get his cam chain tensioners done as well but what would the best way to go as far as cams and big bore?? Fuelmoto has a 98" kit that looks good but I like the S&S 97" kit. He could also go the 95" route from HD - what cams would be a good choice for a heavy 2-up touring bike of this year?? He won't be doing any headwork and he's going with a PCIII as a local is a crackerjack at tuning them.

If it were my bike...95 inch kit w/ se flat top pistons and either se 203 cams or andrews 37 cams. Throw in a set of se heads and he's set.

I've done my 01 softail several times from forged hi comp pistons to mid comp flat tops. Right now its flat tops, se 204 cams and se heads w/ daytona twin tech ignition. She's a blast to ride.

First of all sience he has the good harley crank, gear drive
cams is the only way to fly. Then I'd go with the 98 that
would be 10 more than what he has already. Fuelmoto can
give the best advice on whitch cams S&S or woods. You can
also check out
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/engin.../?daysprune=45
for some good advice as well.

I just did a 97" Rev-Tech with Keith Black 10.5 domed forged pistons and a Woods TW-5G cams and Directional lifters with 1.92 intake and 1.64 exhaust valves with a little port and polish on the heads. Runs great, pulls like a train 2-up and with the Cobra PowerPro Autotune fuel processor i get 46 mpg 2-up and 49 solo on 2 lane roads.

He does have the cold forged crank ( not hot,) , but w/o the Timken Lefty bearing that MoCo dropped in '03. So for gear drives, you must check run out.

Keep the seasoned cylinders, bored to match a set of 95" cast pistons. Harley 203 or better yet Andrews 26 cams. Leave the heads alone.

Best motor I've owned and way past 100,000 miles on it. ( 2000 S/E Road Glide.)

Really... Certainly can't argue with 100,000 + miles!! Think we'll tear it down, get the cylinders bored, get some pistons and be done of it! I run the Andrews 26 in my SG and love it - do they have a 26 cam for 88" or in this case a 95"? Might shoot Gary Wallace an email.

Sure, when my stock 203's wore out at 81,000, that's what I replaced them with on my Stage II 95". Currently at 108,400 as of this week.

If you were going to keep it at 88" you'd run the Andrews 21.

Hi Flow A/C and a 2 into 1 exhaust and you're looking at 85 HP 95 Ft/lbs torque give or take. ( 25% more than you've got now.) On my 70 miles ( roundtrip) commute to work I average 46 mpg. No heat issues either, The tuner is more than I've got, I just run the Factory download.

Running it up the East Coast this summer through 5 states. I have all the confidence in the world in her.
