Voltage regulator wiring problem
I have a 2012 Street Glide and called HD sevice and asked them if the voltage regulators are bad.
The guy at H-D service, nice guy too said yes and that if you have one manufactured between 3-9-11 and 5-1-11 Harley will replace them before they go. He said they sure the time periods got the bad ones. Also the number to refer this item is #1261049.
The V/R on mine reads like this 4311. My dealer is ordering me a new one.

Good news! We're finally getting some action on this defective regulator deal. How would H-D know the bad S/N batch (3-9-11 and 5-1-11 as noted above?). Must be a particular traceable shipment from a parts vendor. How do we help our dealer access their Tech Support database if they're confused? What does the number #1261049 refer to?
As this unfolds it'll be helpful to have some info to pass to our supporting dealers. Thanks all for responding.

Just had to have mine replaced at Rolling Thunder on my 2012 Ultra, thank goodness Patriot Harley had mechanics on duty. Said they had replaced 10 already, nice thing is they replaced it with a chrome one!!
The regulator S/N can be seen from the front of the bike with a mirror held behind it. The white letters are on the side facing the engine oil filter. They're backwards in the mirror...**** = production date, 74505-09 = P/N.

Unless you have a way to raise the bike off the floor, it's easiest to look at the DC wire that might chafe from under the right side behind the floor board. Look between the right lower engine mount bolt and the wiring/frame below. Pull it to the right with a nylon tie as reqiuired.

I'm waiting to hear from my local dealer...they are excellent so will know more soon.

I can see the numbers from the left side of the bike without a problem..no mirror needed.
Sure could use this guy though.

Good note on the look-at from the left. Best to check with your dealer for the Factory's info on all this. I'm only passing on what I've read elsewhere, and seen for myself on my RKC.
Note: H-D, if you want to send a Lawyer by my garage, bring donuts. I'm out.

Yes, easy to see from the left side of bike. Mine reads 4911 so if the date range mentioned earlier in this thread is correct, I may have a surprise waiting for me. Bike's build date is 12/11. I'm hopeful there is something to the post earlier about HD doing a preemptive replacement on these.
