I am one of the customers who can be listed in the "good service" category. One thing I have found about internet orders is that you have to be patient. If I need something right away, I will go to my local dealer and pay the premium to get it. I used to order from Chicago HD online. They had notoriously long wait times, sometimes over 90 days, so I went to LSHD. I usually order HD internet stuff over the winter so even if it takes 4 months, I won't need it and the discount makes the wait worth it. Once the weather gets nice, these places get bombarded with orders and they can only fill what they have in stock. Frustrating? Yes, but your experience is common during April through September. Buyer beware.
I've been in the supply business since the day before my 18th birthday. I turned 50 this year. The most true statement I can pass along regarding customer service is this: "No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care".
A simple phone call, or email goes a long way toward building long term relationships with your customers.
So all you young whippersnapper salesmen out there, pay attention to the old fart, and take care of your customers.

I can understand the wait times, what bugs me most is if I return the items that I went to the local dealer for I will lose 10%, when I was not even notified there was a backorder. Not like they called me and I said it's ok and now I'm upset, you know?
Also the attitude via email is not acceptable to me.
If I need something fast go to the local dealer or call the discount internet dealers to make sure they have it in stock and then place an order otherwise you will have same situation with some parts on special order or back order regardless local or internet dealers. Even our local dealer will charge you 10% restocking fee if he has to order anything specific for you and he only gives store credit for any return. Our local Parts manager's nick name is backorder Ben.
From my experience, most all dealers aren't stocking much for parts anymore. The overhead is too steep and it's just plain easier for them to order as needed. I have tried to deal with LSHD parts department over the phone but they will not work with internet orders that way. As far as the 10% restocking fee it doesn't seem that far out of line because I'm sure they didn't expect to sell you a special order item only to have you return it. I understand your impatience but these days attitude is running rampant.

I will say once again, my issue for the restocking fee is because I was never told the item was on back order. I was sent tracking info through paypal that my order was shipping and when I opened the box is when I found out everything was not there.
I'm sure the dealer would tell you if something isn't in stock and let you the customer decide if you want to wait or go elsewhere correct?
Aside from that the attitude from this individual in my opinion is way out of line, is this what we're coming to in this country for customer service? I might as well be talking to someone across the pond with a funny accent telling me his name is John Smith.......
I was in no particular hurry for most of the stuff,
Number #1 rule when shopping on the internet. Don't be in a big hurry!
If you have a road trip planned or need a part ASAP, then buy directly from your dealer or other store that has the items in stock.
I've spent a few thousand $$$ with Lakeshore and have had many items placed on backorder over the years. No biggie... cause I'm not in a big *** hurry for them. When they ship... they ship. I'm not going to whine about it!
