Glad you are OK. I was also hit from behind the first day I got my 08 out of storage this year. Sitting at light. Heard tires start to squeal and bam. I came out OK with just some scratches and heavy bruising. Bike was totaled as the frame was damaged. Riding a new 12 now.

Glad YOU are ok. I always worry about getting rearended at a stop. Especially when I'm behind another vehicle. Getting crushed between two vehicles would really suck.
What comes to mind is when I'm behind a car sitting off to one side, I imagine my brake light appears like the rear light of the car. I continualy watch for approaching rear traffic, and leave an out if needed.

First, I hope that the OP heals well and quickly. As others have said, the bike can be fixed/replaced so get better soon.
Just as some food for thought, I have the BAL 1 and it is set on 2 pulses and then on to stay. I have even started quickly getting off then back on the brake once stopped to get more of the flashes!!
Scary. I've had the same fear for a while. Saw a graphic lately that shows that vast majority of bike accidents is getting hit from the front. Doesn't make me any more comforatble sitting at a light though!
Wow, man sorry about the accident. Watch yourself because sometimes stuff that happens to you does not manifest itself for a day or a few days.
I hate sitting at lights / for turns/ and watching cars like a hawk because even though you're sitting on about 800 # of bike + yourself, the shape and form of a rider does not register, and the cell phone/texting bites azz.
