Yea, I do as much cold weather riding as I do summer. That's a big reason I bought an Ultra ( wind protection). I was fixing to buy the Harley 2" pullback bars but the Monkey bars are looking good to me. If I got the monkeys I would probably have to go with the 10" because my hands get cold very easy.
How much more wind will the hands and arms catch with the 12's verses the 10's?
Also, are the monkey bars comfortable on long trips?
I still have the HD 2" touring pullbacks on mine...i like them better than stock and was able to change these without any cable upgrade plus i did it myself so it only cost me $50 for the bars so it was a cheap winter upgrade...not sure i want my hands in the wind in the winter...
Joe do you get any wind protection on your hands with the 12's from the fairing. I recently moved up to a SG from an old Vulcan 900. I had 18" apes on it and loved them. Want to do bagger apes on the SG but have come to enjoy warm hands lol
These are the 12" bars Harley Davidson sells. They are 1" dia. bars.
Windshield is a Klockweks 8.5 inch
bike is 2011 Streetglide
Seat is a LePera King Cobra, which sits me about 1-2 inches lower, and 3-4 inches back.
The stock seat made me feel like I was humping the tank....I like being behind and below the tank. On a stock seat, the bars will "feel" lower.
the BEST route, in my opinion, is to spend the $$$ and get the High Country Cycles COMPLETE kit, already wired with all chrome controls, levers everything, and it comes with the braided lines/cables.
Yes, it's expensive, but they just look good. I went the cheap route.....I just replaced the clutch cable, and re-routed my existing brake line.
THX. I will look into the HCC kit. Ive been thinking 12s and after seeing yours I think thats what Im going with. Thx for posting up the pics, it was real helpful.
Not trying to start a flame war but I would be careful of the HCC set-ups. When i was researching a bar change I was coming up with lots of feedback that their braided lines were of questionable quality, I have no first person knowledge but if you are going to do it, at least check the claim out. It would suck to go through the process and 6 months later find out the lines are crap and all yellowed up.
