Default iPhone/iPod remote control AND charge

I ride with earbuds in for long trips. Normal configuration is iPhone in jacket or pants pocket and cord running up through jacket. It works OK but I wear gloves and its a pain to find the volume buttons that way. I stream Slacker Radio or MLB 2012 App so battery drain becomes an issue. I hate to let it run all day and then be out of juice for a phone call should I need to make one. So here is my solution:

I already had a 12v source for my GPS under the right side cover. So I split that and ran it to a 2 wire plug.

Next was to run the new cable so I had easy access to disconnect it when for when I have to take the bag off.

Next came the fun part. Drilling holes in the bag.

The 12v plug I got from radio shack. Originally I was going to mount it under the tray I have in the bag, but I figured the jackets and crap I stuff under it would booger up the wires so I just let it sit on the tray for now. The other wire is a headphone extension that I ran with the power wires and up near the dash by the seat.

Finished product:

(The other cutout is for the camera that I was using to take these pics.)

The controller I mounted on the bars like this:

The remote is one of these:

I couldn't use the tiny little controller on the headphones while wearing gloves. And again there was no way to charge it. This remote is the only one that I've found that allows a charger to be plugged in at the same time. The remote works off RF so no line of site is required.

I ran the headphone extension along with the power wires under the right cover. Then I continued the headphone extension under the seat and up to the end of the dash. I didn't want to drill into the dash yet until I was sure how this setup will work. The good news is that if I ever get handlebar speakers I can keep everything as is and just connect the amp to the cable that is already run.

Taking a trip to the Union Hotel in Maryland on Sunday so we will see how it holds up

Looked onto the link. Quick question: only the remote is RF, correct? To play through the stock radio, the AUX is still being used, and not FM modulated? Product description doesn't mention that, until you said something about headphone jack. So I assume for the radio to get signal, it's headphone jack to AUX in.

Yea. It's control only. The cable I ran was male in iPhone and female under tank. You would need a male to make cable to plug into your aux port. But I would recommend maybe a short male/female then male/male so you can disconnect it when you pull the bag

Great, than you for clarifying, I dislike FM modulators.

I agree. Modulators are garbage. If batter life is not a priority or you are running a stand alone iPod you could maybe use this as well, if a display is important:

Google: heat activated foam earbuds
They are just some foam pads that you will put on your ear buds but, you won't believe how much better they will stay in your ears and cut the wind noise. I bought mine at Radio Shack.

I'm currently using this:

Works good, just doesn't charge.
