Default Best all weather gear

This fall I'll be making a trip from Vegas to Napa Valley and it will be the first time my wife has been on a ride of that distance. We will probably have some different climates to deal with and I want her to be comfortable. What I'm looking for is the best Gortex or something better with a zip out liner and waterproof. She'll need pants too, I don't want to say money is no object but you guys know when the wife is miserable so are you...any help would be appreciated.

I like FXRG gear. They make leather and fabric gear. Thats if you want to stay with the Harley stuff. There are other gear thats just as good or better. That ride isn't too far and the temp's are mild compared to going across country. But the way I look at it, if the little woman agrees to getting good gear, hey go get the good stuff LOL

In my quest for the "perfect" compliment of riding gear to accomodate the changes in weather I have narrowed my prefered selection of take along clothing. I find myself using my Gerbings jacket liner a lot. I'll pack a nylon wind breaker and a lined jacket that can fit over the Gerbings. My gloves will range from perforated leather to my Gerbings 3G. I always have my Harley neck gator with me also. That can take me thru a mild chill in the air to the upper 20's. I also carry a rain suit, large enough to fit over any combination of clothing I am wearing. For extended rain, you won't find me out on the road.

I've been having great results with the HD 3 in 1 switchback stuff.

( which includes a rain liner)

get a set of frogg toggs or something easy to get into at the side of the road, and you are covered. ( bass pro shops carries, they fold tiny into the saddlebag).

Before this trip why not do some 3-400 hundred mile day rides to ensure that the seat position and all that works for her.
...and that riding on a bike really appeals and and is fun for her- riding doesn't appeal to everyone

otherwise she'll be flying home from sacramento.

FXRG hands down I think is the best all around gear. Add any of the heated gear to it and you will not need anything else.

I like Textile gear for distance riding and I'm partial to FirstGear products, well made and a lot of bang for the buck. I have leather and wore only that for many years but I don't find it as versatile as Textile. I also like overpants compared to chaps. I have chaps, leather jacket and I've owned that style for 30 years, textile is th evolution beyond that IMHO. When I want to look good I wear my leather.

Added: I wear a FirstGear Kilimanjaro jacket and FirstGear mesh overpants with zip in liner, both will also keep you dry without using a rain suit. The jacket as a lot of pockets and even some that are extremly water resisant. I also own Gerbing heated gear and in cold weather it makes all the difference and wished I puchased it 20 years ago.

I agree. I picked up a pair of FXRG pants last fall because I got a screaming deal and am in love with them. I am now looking for a matching jacket to go with them.

The pants are a bit of a pain to get in and out of and no open fly to take a leak but they are comfortable and are amazing in the rain. I ride year around and living near Seattle, well 'nuff said.
