There's another thread about this somewhere. Dude says it's much easier to put the bike on a lift to install - seems to make aligning all the pieces easier. Takes several hours apparently. I let my dealer install it for me before delivery.
Drop down and remove the innermost bolt that supports the lower bag support bar and rear of the exhaust muffs....that will allow the chrome strut cover to flop around and let you insert the bracket bolts lots easier.
I installed my docking hardware this week in less than an hour with no fussin or cussin once I decided to do the above.
