Ok, just pick up my hinges from the dealer and read through the directions and preparing to do the install when I get the time. So I asked myself now is the best time to ask those who have already added this to there Pak..."what is the hidden mistakes?" Drill and Tour Pak can get dangerous! I am willing to be forewarned!!!
By the way, dealer said that these are being discontinued.
They just cam out! Thought I'd get them while they had them still available.
Are you sure you heard right, the just hit the market. I know that you need to place a putty knife between the drill and the seal to keep from damaging it and take your time and hold the drill tight and steady
I have had mine for about 2 weeks. The install is straight forward, just take your time when drilling and have a sharp drill bit. Use some type of scrapper or other tool to help hold the lid gasket out of the way when you drill out those rivets.
I just got a HD spring supplement catalog in the mail the other day and the hinges were in it. I really think they are here to stay. These things are not so "high tech" that you would expect some type of design flaw. It is a simple hinge and it really is done pretty well. I would question your dealers knowledge......
Follow the directions and go slow. I didn't use anything other than my fingers to hold the weatherseal out of the way. Just drill off the heads of the rivets, slowly, don't drill any further. Once you get the rivets off the lower pak run the drill in those holes from the outside because the new latches wont fit in them unless you do.
Did mine a couple days ago. Other than the rivets behind the seals, it wasn't to bad. I had to drill the heads off the "Seal" rivets at an angle. Looks much better. Instructions suck as always.
I used cloth tape on the seal. I applied it to the seal then pulled down and stuck it to the inside of the lid which kept the gasket compressed and both my hands free.
I also used an 11/64ths drill, one size down from the one suggested.
If the rivets spin just angle the drill a bit. The heads will come off.
Drill the holes out using the same bit and install per directions.
