I think the SE are loud (not as loud as a lot of them but still loud) and they have an irritating high pitched cracking noise.
Isn't that cracking noise the sound barrier?
My SE's are stock (Sportster 1200) and give a great sound, quiet rumble at idle and that spiting roar of a V8 when you lay into it and wind-her-up, might be just cause I'm the guy sitting on it. IMHO.
So far, all of the responses refer to running the 80732-09--the "Screamin' EagleŽ Street Performance Touring Mufflers." Is anybody running the 65115-10--the "Screamin' EagleŽ Thunder Street Performance Slip-On Mufflers," which are supposedly designed specifically to work with the header mounted cat?
I currently am running a V&H exhaust from the heads back which consists of the power duals and monster ovals. Lately with only 11000 miles it seems to be getting a little louder than I prefer. I was curious if there are any riders out there who are running the Sceamin' Eagle mufflers with the stock headers with the catylists intact. If so I was curious what your thoughts were on the set-up?
Please look at the New Supertrapp Stout Slip-Ons or the
KERKER STOUT 4 SLIP-ONS they are louder than the Supertrapp Stouts,,Made by Supertrapp.
One more thing if you look at the 2012 Screamin Eagle Catalog (or go on line) you will see on the first few pages four of Harley's Raceing Bikes ,three of the four have Supertrapp Mufflers,,Now if the Harley Racing Teams are using Supertrapp,,What does that tell you ??????[/quote]
I have V&H true duals with 2011 CVO slip ons and am very satisfied with them. I had V&H slip ons with the true duals, but they were so loud they would hurt my ears when I got on the throttle. The V&H true duals with the CVO slip ons have a nice rumble at idle and sound really good when getting on the throttle, but are quiet enough at cruise to listen to the radio speakers.
Got me a set of V&H Monster Ovals ten months ago on my FLHTK. Getting louder by the day & all the chrome has peeled off the end caps. No way would I encourage anyone to buy a set, as I'm sooooo disappointed in the poor quality.
A friend has the SE Toring mufflers on his & they have stayed quiet over many more miles AND they look as good as new.
I'm running PowerDuals on my bike and have just gone with SuperTrapp SE slip-ons. They give a nice, deep tone. Not loud but noticeably deeper tone. On the freeway not too loud either. I don't like loud as I'm on the open road 90% of the time and loud gets on my nerves.

^^ This.
Have the same setup--V&H Dresser Duals, 2011 CVO slip-ons. Quiet enough to not be annoying at cruising speed (at least up to 75 mph), but crack the throttle and they sound good.
Didn't hurt that there's a lot of people getting rid of the CVO slip-ons because they're upgrading their CVO--should be able to pick up a set for about $200 or so; I did!
