I've got a tomtom and a fairly new garmin, i used in the truck, and tried them both outside in the sun. Had a hard time seeing anything, so i got the harley zumo 660. Installed it yesterday and took it for a drive today. Love it....i can see it in the sun and it gives directions over the speakers, I have the NIM installed as well. Bit of a pain to install, due to crappy directions, but got it working!
I decided to get the mount & adapter you gave links for as I have a spare Nuvi & will use that until I can buy the Zumo. Sure appreciate the links direct to ebay as I bought both items for the prices were very low. Thanks again so much! Scott
Hey, you can't buy anything now. We're not done posting yet!!!
I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 550 for $230. and a power cradle for $38 plus S/H for $275 total, that I will hard wire into a hot lead behind my headlight, the same way I wired my Zumo 450. I already had a RAM mount that I used with my Zumo 450 that crapped out on me after just 27 months of infrequent use. I am not gonna shell out a lot of money on these things any more.
I just bought a GPS unit as well. I looked long and hard at the Zumo 600 and 660, but ended up getting a Montana 650 with auto and bike mounts. Yes, it does have a smaller screen, and does not have bluetooth, but it is a little more versatile for my needs, and it's very ruggedly built. I haven't used it much yet, but would recommend it to anyone who wants to move it from bike to car to off-road vehicle...or if you like to go for long walks in the woods, or hunt, fish and navigate small lakes and rivers. It is a bit complicated to set up because it has so many options, but it is the most versatile one for the money.
I have the older 550 Garmin and love it. Tells you elevation and all sorts of stuff.Plus you can calculate fuel economy and fuel warning. List goes on and on and I believe the replacement is the 660. Garmin also has a great forum to enter act with.
For now I'm running a Garmin Nuvi 1450 on a RAM mount. It's not waterproof (it never rains in California) but for my needs not a big deal for the time being. The screen is big and easy to see and it was around $200 for everything with the mount, wiring, etc.
I'm doing the same, on the batwing, I have a short power cord that works well.
