Garmin is designed and made for the US market, so is an obvious choice. There are other brands and for European users I would recommend TomTom, for the same reason. If you don't have a gps at present, a weather proof one can be used in all your vehicles. When mounting it on your bike place it where your passenger, if you carry one, can read it. Mrs B and I navigate together, via our intercom!

Another option if you dont want the very high dollar ones is the Garmin 220. Comes with all the mounts you need.

Garmin Nuvi 1450 on a RAM mount

That's the combination I use. The LMT model gives you lifetime upgrades. Nice big screen. Not a real lot of $$. I plug it into a cigarette lighter mounted on the back of my windshield.

I have a 2011 FLHTK also and currently use an old TomTom connected to the cig lighter in the faring and sits atop a Ram Mount on handlebars. Can't preprogram any routes..
After doing some research on various forums I bought a new Garmin Nuvi 40LM (4.3"). Guys are using the 50LM(5.0"). Neither are waterproof, but have lifetime maps, Speed Limit Display, and Lane Assist. Even though it's not advertised you can download the HARLEY POI set for Harley Dealers. And, you can download roadtrips from the Harley Road Trip planner into the GPS Unit also..
Can't wait to try it out in a couple of weeks when I get back from AF..

Ordered the shorty cig lighter wire for my GPS..thanks for the link on Ebay..

I decided to get the mount & adapter you gave links for as I have a spare Nuvi & will use that until I can buy the Zumo. Sure appreciate the links direct to ebay as I bought both items for the prices were very low. Thanks again so much! Scott

It doesn't have all the fancy features, but its a great GPS
Yup, I have a Garmin 550 and for the money it is just great, I don't need and or want all of the features that the Zumo's offer!
The route planning works well using the free Garmin Base Camp downloads and that is really what I needed, plan the route on you PC, download to the Garmin, done.
good luck

I've had the Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS using RAM mounts for 3 years and love it. It has MP3 player also so I can listen to my own music. You can also get the Mad Maps for lots of really cool places to ride. It's not waterproof and have had to use a baggie around it a few times but it works for me.

I have a Zumo 220 direct wired to the headlight wiring and mounted to the left side controls. I like it but am not a power user. One drawback is you cannot import tracks from the mapping software where you can on the older Zumo 550 but I haven't found that an issue for what I use it for.

That its waterproof, comes with mapsource software and has all the mounts for both car and bike makes it a winner for me. Be aware that if you already have mapsource installed with a different map version that can cause route issues if there are differences between the maps.
